Medvedev Can Win Second Title at Flushing Meadows

Daniil Medvedev upset the odds in 2021 when he denied Novak Djokovic a Calendar Grand Slam with victory in the US Open final. That was the Russian’s first Grand Slam title, and he can replicate that success this year with his second triumph in New York.

The former world number one has an 82% win rate at the US Open, the highest of all the four Grand Slam tournaments. He is now into his fourth semi-final at Flushing Meadows.

Third seed has got better as this tournament has gone on

Medvedev is +1000 in the US Open betting odds to lift the trophy in the final Grand Slam event of the season. If he continues to improve in the final two games of the tournament, he will take some beating.

The former winner was one of the leading tennis betting tips and predictions for his quarter-final tie with Andrey Rublev, and he brushed aside his Russian compatriot with ease in straight sets.

The number three seed began the tournament by dropping just two games against Attila Balazs. He then got past Christopher O’Connell in four sets. Comfortable victories followed in the third and fourth rounds where it was clear Medvedev was going through the gears.

Medvedev served very well in his quarter-final success. He recorded eight aces, and he had a 75% first serve winning percentage. If he continues to serve so strongly, he will have a good chance against the top two players in the world.

If the number three seed make it through to the final, he is likely to face Djokovic again. He beat the Serbian in straight sets the last time they met in the semi-final of the Dubai Tennis Championships. That success on a hard court will give him a lot of confidence against the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

There were signs of his best game returning at Wimbledon

After disappointing performances at the Australian Open and French Open, Medvedev showed his game was close to his best against at Wimbledon. He reached the semi-finals in London, his best result yet at the Grand Slam event on grass.

His best victory at this year’s Wimbledon was his quarter-final success against American Christopher Eubanks. That was one of the games of the tournament, and it was the Russian who eventually prevailed in five sets. He produced his best tennis when it mattered, winning that final set 6-1.

Five ATP tour titles in 2023

Medvedev is bidding to win his sixth title of the season in the US Open. He was the most dominant player of the ATP Tour in February, winning the Rotterdam Open, Qatar Open, and Dubai Tennis Championship.

In March, the 27-year-old was beaten in the final of the Indian Wells Masters. However, he did later go on to have success in two Masters 1000 events, with wins coming in the Miami Open and Italian Open.

Medvedev is currently ranked third in the ATP world rankings, victory in New York will help him close the gap on world number one Djokovic.
