Smarkets Closing in on Betfair Betting Exchange

It’s widely thought that Betfair are by far the biggest and best betting exchange in the market today. However, judging on recent news Smarkets seem to be closing in on the industry leaders.

They’ve recently been listed as the second fastest-growing technology company in the UK. They came in second to Wonderbly, a digital book publisher for children, in The Sunday Times ‘2017 Tech Track 100’. This beats their position last year where they came 5th.

Here’s what CEO and Founder, Jason Trost, said: ‘The Tech Track 100 is a prestigious ranking of rapidly growing tech companies, so it’s great to see our name so high up and above last year’s position. 2016 was another great year of growth for us as we pursue our goal of disrupting the betting industry with a tech-first focus.’

Smarkets entered the betting exchange industry back in 2008. Since then they’ve been growing at a ridiculous rate. The company recently reported a 280% annual sales increase over the last three years. Considering most gamblers like to stick with big name brands like Betfair this a remarkable increase and they deserve their place in this Sunday Times list.

Which betting exchange to use?

Unlike other matched betting websites we recommend our members use Smarkets over Betfair. Wait a minute, you said Betfair is the biggest and best in the market earlier on…

Yes, they are undoubtedly the biggest. However, they now have very strong competition in the ‘best’ category.

Here at The Sure Bettor, we’ve been big fans of Smarkets since we started matched betting, many years ago. Their aim is to disrupt the betting industry with a ‘tech-first’ approach. So far it seems to be working very well.

Smarkets provide a brilliant platform that keeps getting better. Here are some of the main reasons we recommend our members use them:

  • The first and probably most important benefit is their industry-leading commission of just 2%. We want to maximise our profit using matched betting which means reducing the amount we pay in commission.
  • Smarkets have been working hard over the past few months on their website and we love what seems to be their final design.
  • The software they use is second to none and we’ve hardly ever had any problems with it (and we’ve placed a lot of bets).
  • The number of markets they have available is also increasing. We recently got in touch with them about bringing accumulators, their main drawback, to their platform and it sounds like it’s in the pipeline. We hope it won’t be long as this will top off a brilliant company.

There are still times when we recommend you use Betfair, however, this is reducing as Smarkets become a more comprehensive and rounded platform.
