Royal Ascot could be the making of star sprinters

The two-year-old and three-year-old races at Royal Ascot are the chance for horses to really make a name for themselves in the sport. This year could be the opportunity for two sprinters to shine at the five-day meeting.

Perfect Power and Persian Force are two horses who already have a big reputation. Here is a look at their chances of enhancing it further at the royal meeting.

Perfect Power – Commonwealth Cup

Perfect Power was a two-time Grade One winner last season, as he won the Prix Morny at Deauville and the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. He has been successful five times between 5f-7f.

Connections of the son of Ardad stepped up in distance last time for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. He ran respectably well in the British Classic, but it was clear he was not quite as effective over 1m.

Richard Fahey’s runner is now dropping back down to 6f. He is likely to be one of the popular horse racing tips on the Betfair Blog for the Commonwealth Cup, the leading three-year-old contest over the sprint distance. He is 5/1 to get back to winning ways and prove he is one of the best sprinters in the UK and Ireland.

It is going to be very exciting to see this horse step up against the older horses later this year. That may come in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp in October. Before then, he is up against his own age group, and that makes life easier for him at Royal Ascot.

Persian Force – Coventry Stakes

With two victories from two racecourse appearances, Persian Force has made the perfect start to his career. Richard Hannon’s runner got off the mark on his debut at Doncaster in the Brocklesby. He quickened clearly very impressively in the closing stages of that 5f contest at Town Moor.

The Mehmas colt proved that opening performance was no fluke as he successfully followed up at Newbury when he stepped up to 6f. He only had two rivals to beat at the Berkshire racecourse, but it was a tougher assignment. The two-year-old was held up by rider Rossa Ryan until 2f from home. When his rider asked him to quicken, he produced a strong turn of foot to score by over two lengths.

Persian Force is now 7/2 for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. It is one of the leading two-year-old races across the week and it has been won by the likes of Henrythenavigator, Canford Cliffs, Dawn Approach and Caravaggio over the years.

Noble Style and Little Big Bear are both likely to take on Persian Force in the two-year-old contest. They both have also shown some promise in the early stages of their careers, but they may have to fight it out for second place behind Hannon’s latest star colt.

The 2022 Royal Ascot meeting takes place between June 14-18. Hopefully the above two horses can showcase their class and end up as some of the stars of the week at the Berkshire racecourse.
