We’ve got some great horse racing on this week meaning there are plenty of opportunities for you to place some bets and make a great profit.
Here’s a preview of the races to look forward to on day one of the ‘Glorious’ Goodwood Festival. The highlight being the featured race, the 15.35 Qatar Goodwood Cup.
Race 1 – 13.50 Unibet Handicap
To kick things off, the 13.50 Unibet handicap looks set to be a great race that should set the stage for a great week of racing.
Setting Sail heads into this one as the favourite after a solid race at York earlier in July. Judging by that form, he should certainly be there or thereabouts come Tuesday.
Beringer and Jazeel start this race as second and third favourites respectively. These two had a great scrap at Sandown earlier this month so expect something similar.
Race 2 – 14.25 Vintage Stakes
Another great race to look forward to.
Pinatubo looks the most promising heading into this one after his easy win in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. If he puts in a performance like that, he’ll certainly be up there.
Visinari will be looking to improve on his performance at Newmarket earlier this month where he came 3rd after leading the race at the final furlong. With Frankie Dettori in the saddle, keep an eye out for these two.
Lope Y Fernandez comes into this one as the bookies’ third favourite. Despite showing some great stamina in the Chesham Stakes in June, he didn’t quite have the speed to stay ahead of Pinatubo in the final furlong. Expect another strong performance, however.
Race 3 – 15.00 Lennox Stakes
After a strong performance at Ascot earlier this month, finishing just short of Beat The Bank, Zaaki heads into the Lennox Stakes as the favourite.
Sitting just behind Zaaki, Hey Gaman will be looking to build on a strong outing at Curragh where he came second to Romanised. With Dettori in the seat, he is certainly one to watch.
Space Traveller heads into this one as one of the favourites after his surprising win in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot earlier this month. With Danny Tudhope remaining in the saddle, they’ll be looking to prove their last performance wasn’t a fluke.
Race 4 – 15.35 Qatar Goodwood Cup
Along with the festival’s opening ceremony and the races mentioned above, spectators can look forward to the feature race, the Qatar Goodwood Cup.
With a prize purse of £500,000, the Qatar Goodwood Cup draws some of the biggest names in the equine world.
Stradivarius heads into this one as the favourite, ridden by Frankie Dettori. Stradivarius is looking for a third consecutive win of the Qatar Goodwood Cup, something that hasn’t been achieved before. Having not lost since October 2017, he is in great form.
However, he’ll have to watch out for Cross Counter who heads into this one as the bookie’s second favourite. The Melbourne Cup winner looks set to contest the top spot after a promising result at Ascot in June.
Dee Ex Bee sits in third. However, most doubt his pace to keep up with the frontrunners. Expect a decent race from Dee Ex Bee without the heroics of the front two.
